Here's a tough truth:

The research shows that food rules, restrictions, nutrient tracking apps, and meal plans are a lot more likely to end in rebound overeating, food obsession, and weight regain than weight loss or improved health. Not just regain, actually. As many as two-thirds of people who embark on weight-loss efforts end up gaining more weight than they lost.

Dieting doesn’t work and actively causes harm.

Don't just take our word for it

“After years of not being able to trust my body and ridiculous diets that never actually worked, Laura has helped me realize there is no “right way” to eat and no perfect body. I learned so much in the months working with her and I am slowly but surely losing the need to obsess over how many calories I’m consuming/burning to create a better relationship with food overall. You can really tell it’s personalized to what you truly need.”

— Amanda on Long Island, NY

I can’t remember the last time that I over-ate. It has felt pretty easy to do as well, not like an intense battle in my head. I regularly make time to ask myself how full or not I am. Since Halloween, we have had a lot of candy in the house of course which would normally be a huge trigger for me. Instead I am able to have one or two Hershey kisses for example if I want something sweet. It feels so good to have a little treat but also to know that I am tasting it and enjoying it, instead of just waiting to put the next piece of candy in my mouth without thinking. Your words and guidance continue to help me. I cannot thank you enough. I’m extremely grateful to you.”

— Denise in White Plains, NY

My overeating and mindless eating curbed by the end of my time with her. It was not easy, and took dedication to the process and trust in Laura. I highly recommend Laura! She will seriously change your life. She certainly did with me and I'm forever thankful for her.

What we help with

Intuitive Eating Counseling

Our dietitians specialize in an approach to nutrition and wellness called Intuitive Eating (IE), and it is absolutely not a diet. IE is a dynamic framework with the express goal of shifting away from dieting and embracing peace and balance with food and our bodies. We encourage individuals to reconnect with their internal cues of hunger, fullness, and satisfaction. Rather than rely on external rules or restrictive diets, intuitive eating empowers you to trust your body's innate wisdom to nourish yourself.

For example, we’ll teach you to eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full. To trust your body to know when and how much to eat so you can be flexible with your own changing needs, preferences, and schedules. We’ll also educate you on nutrition in a way that feels clear and simple - but no foods are ever off limits. Instead, we’ll help you feel calm and in control around all foods so you can keep everything in the house without guilt or concern about overeating.

Intuitive eaters develop a sense of internal peace, control and intentionality around food - rather than oscillate between “being good” or “being bad.”

Body Image Counseling

Our team of empathetic dietitians are specially trained in how to address the complexity of body image struggles. We create a safe and nurturing environment for individuals to explore their feelings and thoughts about their bodies. We are Health At Every Size aligned and pull from modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, self-compassion, and mindfulness.

Body image work often entails first getting to know the unique story of your body to understand where your current body feelings come from. Then, we can deconstruct what is expressed in your own negative body image decoding to understand how being self-critical feels productive, but is actually harmful. Finally, we collaborate to find the specific tools that help you feel less uncomfortable in your body, kinder and more caring for yourself, and more resilient to the natural changes that occur to our bodies.

Eating Disorder Recovery

Our registered dietitians are specially trained and experienced in treating binge eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) as well as eating disorders that don’t perfectly fit into any single diagnosis.

We offer a compassionate and evidence-based approach to help individuals navigate the challenges associated with eating disorders. Our eating disorder services encompass a range of therapeutic interventions that address both the physical and psychological aspects of recovery. We work closely with individuals to develop personalized meal plans and nutritional strategies that promote balanced eating, restore physical health, and foster a positive relationship with food. Additionally, we engage clients in body image counseling, utilizing evidence-based modalities like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches to address the underlying psychological factors contributing to disordered eating behaviors.

Weight Concerns

Our dietitians focus on helping you cultivate a positive and respectful relationship with food and your body, without fixating on weight loss as the primary goal. Instead, we encourages individuals to trust their body's signals, eat mindfully, and honor their hunger and fullness cues. While weight concerns may naturally shift as a result of adopting intuitive eating, the emphasis remains on overall well-being, body acceptance, and fostering a healthier relationship with food, rather than pursuing weight loss as the ultimate measure of success.

PCOS Support

Far too often, people with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) are recommended to “just lose weight” as though that were an easy, doable, or effective solution to a such a complex condition.

We believe that nutrition management of PCOS should focus on building a sustainably healthy relationship with food in the context of possible insulin resistance and metabolism changes - without diets or deprivation. You don’t need to live your life on a restrictive diet to take care of your health. PCOS can also greatly impact one’s body image because it is often associated with changes in body size and shape, excessive hair growth, and acne. Our dietitians are trained in body image counseling to help you find peace with your body as well.

Holistic Nutrition

Holistic nutrition is an integrative and comprehensive approach to health and wellness that recognizes the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit. Unlike traditional diets that solely focus on calories or macronutrient ratios, holistic nutrition considers the individual as a whole, taking into account their unique needs, lifestyle, and personal goals. Rather than focus on short-term fixes or restrictive diets, we promote gradual, long-term lifestyle modifications that are realistic and enjoyable.

Holistic nutrition also recognizes the mind-body connection and its impact on overall health. Our nutritionists will help you explore the emotional and psychological aspects of your relationship with food, fostering a positive mindset and promoting mindful eating practices. By addressing stress, emotional triggers, and developing healthier coping mechanisms, you can achieve a more balanced and harmonious approach to nutrition.
